Specialeyes Lenses

All the lenses that we supply are designed and manufactured to your precise prescription. We do not supply over the counter spectacles.

There are three main types of lenses:

1. Single vision lenses

These are used for reading, far distance or intermediate distance. These can be designed to correct refractive errors for all age groups. However, patients over 45 will often need a pair for near vision (readers) as well as a separate pair for distance work.

2. Bifocal lenses

Bifocals contain two separate corrections in the left hand lens and also in the right hand lens. They are only prescribed for presbyopes (typically the over-45 year olds). The separation between the two parts of the lens is clearly visible and is known as the ‘tell tale aging line’ which makes it an unpopular choice for many.

3. Progressive lenses or varifocals

Varifocals are for those individuals who require separate prescriptions for different distances eg those who need one power for watching TV and a different strength for reading. The lenses have a gradual change in power from the top to the bottom, allowing you to see clearly at all distances with just one pair of spectacles. The lenses look just like normal ones ~ there are no visible dividing lines.
